Sofia Tanzanu Counselling and Psychotherapy
Supporting your healing, growth, and resilience through integrative therapy and EMDR.

How I can help you
I am an experienced counsellor and therapist, and I specialise in working with trauma.
I practice online and face to face in Sheffield, and I work with adults who are struggling with anxiety, stress, trauma and PTSD, and those who are adjusting to big life changes.

Additionally, I provide EMDR therapy to help people process traumatic experiences such as accidents, assaults, or sudden loss.

The way I work
I will provide you with a safe and confidential space to make sense of your experiences, find relief from distress, and explore new ways of coping. Whether you’re feeling stuck, navigating a painful memory, or longing for change, we can explore it together at your own pace.

My approach
I believe there’s no one-size-fits-all approach — we all need different kinds of support at different times. You can expect me to show up with curiosity, respect, and a genuine intention to understand you and help you find your own way forward.

Explore your thoughts and feelings
Together, we’ll create space to untangle what’s been on your mind, giving your thoughts and emotions the attention they deserve.

Understand yourself better
Through gentle reflection and curiosity, we’ll start to uncover patterns, meanings, and deeper parts of your story that shape how you feel and relate to others.

Implement real change
We’ll turn insight into action, finding small, practical steps that help you feel more grounded, confident, and in control of your life.
What to expect from therapy
Therapy with me is about understanding yourself and your experiences, I like to work in a calm and collaborative style to support you to make active changes to rebuild your resilience and your trust in yourself.
Most people I work with have between 8 and 12 appointments, with some needing more or less. Sessions are flexible and are offered weekly or bi-weekly, depending on your needs.
I believe therapy should be an open, supportive process where you feel heard and understood and you can start working towards healing.
1
Initial consultation
When you schedule an initial consultation, you will be given a free 15 minute slot for a video call.
This is an opportunity to get to know each other and for you to get a feel for my approach.
You can ask me any questions you might have and we will be able to discuss how me might work together.
2
The first session
I offer face to face or online sessions, depending on which one you choose, I will send you details on how to meet.
The first session is an opportunity to lay down some ground rules for therapy, we will discuss the therapy contract and Confidentiality.
We will discuss what brought you to therapy and to talk about the challenges you are facing.
3
The Game Plan
After we have made a Game Plan, this is where we start digging deeper. We will define your goals and determine what needs to happen for you to overcome your challenges. This process is about implementing sensible but practical changes that will have an impact on your day-to-day life and help you reach your goals.
